Judging is underway this evening in the show of calves before tomorrow’s sale at Carlisle and it’s a bumper entry for this sale which usually attracts a strong trade and sees some of the future show winners change hands.
In the first class, the led Limousin cross heifers, this evening’s judge Katrina Donaldson, Huby, awarded the red ticket went to Messrs Tiplady, Powis House, with a roan heifer, then in second was John Smith-Jackson and in third was Martin Archer, Carry House.
Then in class two, the unhaltered Limousin cross heifers, the winner was Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall, with Messrs Wigham, Hargill in second and another from John Smith-Jackson in third.
Taking the honours in the third class of the evening, the led British Blue cross heifers, was Brian Hall, Ainstable Hall, with the second and third prizes also falling to heifers from the same home.
In class four, the unhaltered Blue cross heifers, the winner was John Smith-Jackson, with Messrs Harrison, Talibert, in second and Brian Hall in third place.
Class five, the led Charolais cross heifers, was won by Anita Padfield, Norwich, with the sole entry in this class.
The AOB Continental heifer class was then won by Messrs Telfer and Claxton with Messrs Harrison, Grange Farm, in second and Messrs Harrison, Talibert, in third.
