Leading the prices at yesterday’s  Holstein Northern Ireland show and sale at Moria was a 3800gns for a potential seventh generation VG or Ex Shottle daughter from William and James Crawford, Brookeborough, Co Fermanagh.

Sale leader at 3800gns was Ardmore Shottle Jill 2

Hitting the headlines in both the show and sale rings was Ardmore Shottle Jill 2 (PLI £129), a January 2010 born Shottle daughter out of Ex91 Bosside Ruben daughter, Ardmore B Ruben Jill. She produced an average of 13,898kgs at 3.73%BF and 3.11%P in five lactations. Calved 28 days and yielding 42kgs daily, the sale leader sold to an undisclosed pedigree herd based in County Tyrone.

Second highest price of the day 3000gns, was paid to Sam and John McCormick, Bangor, Co Down, for October 2009-born Hilltara Bolivia Maude 2. Sired by Magor Bolivia Allen, her dam is VG86 Hilltara Leduc Maude 3. This one sold to John O’Brien, Poyntzpass, Co Down.

Next best at 2880gns was Hilltara Bonair Charlotte 2, a January 2010-born heifer also consigned by the McCormick duo. Sired by the Comestar LHeros son, Karona Bonair, she is out Hilltara Talent L Charlotte. Buyer was George Anderson, Drumbo, Lisburn, Co Down.

Mr Anderson also paid out 2850gns to secure Hilltara Laurin Reann for his Cairnview herd. Born in December 2009, she is sired by Den K Marshall LL Laurin, and is out of Hilltara Triumphant Reann 3, which gave more than 10,500kgs at in her fifth lactation.

Geoffrey Patton, Carrowdore, Co Down, realised 2750gns for February 2010 born Carrowcroft Rock N Roll Primrose. She was sired by the homebred Carrowcroft Rock N Roll, a Jenny Lou Marshall son, while her dam is Carrowcroft Lucente Primrose. This third prize winner caught the eye of John O’Brien, Poyntzpass.

Four lots then came under the hammer of auctioneer Michael Taaffe at 2700gns. First to make this money was third prize winning Inch Shottle Daphne 12, brought out by Jim Morrison, Downpatrick, County Down. Sired by Shottle, she is out of Inch Blackisle Daphne 2. This potential fifth generation VG/Ex heifer joins a Co Tyrone herd.

Jim and Charlotte Stevenson, Kilkeel, Co Down, took the same money for second prize winning Newry Mahogany Begonia. Born in November 2009, she is by the Picston Shottle son, Green Corner Mahogany. Buyer was William Herron Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh.

Mr Herron also paid out 2700gns to secure Ardmore Bolivia Pippin, a January 2010 born heifer from the Crawfords’ herd. Sired by Magor Bolivia Allen, this potential seventh generation VG/EX heifer is out of  Ardmore Primrose Pippin, which gave more than 11,600kgs her fourth lactation.

Harry Patton and Sons, Newtownards, Co Down, sold the last at this money when he traded January 2010-born Ards Russell Monica (PLI £79).  Sired by the Braedale Goldwyn son, Ards Russell, this heifer is bred from the Duncan Progress daughter, Ards Progress Monica VG87. This potential seventh generation VG/EX heifer joins John O’Brien’s herd.
