Beef Shorthorn females sold to a top of 3100gns in Chelford on Saturday for a 23 month old in-calf heifer from T C Brown, Blakesley, Northamptonshire. The polled heifer, Grafton Jealous Darling, is by Chapelton Waverley and out of a home-bred cow and sold having been pd’d in calf to Westmoor Duke to A C Cooper, Newbury, Berkshire.

The same breeder also sold the two year old Grafton Daisy, another polled heifer again by Waverley and out of a home-bred dam, to J C Bellerby, Leeds, West Yorkshire for 2600gns. She had also been pd’d in calf to Duke.

Mr Bellerby also made a call of 2300gns to secure Llanarth Llanarth Gabrielle, a two year old polled heifer in calf to Llanarth Emlyn. Bred by K E Mitchell, Llanarth, Ceredigion, Gabrielle is by Llanarth Titan and is out of a home-bred cow. The Mitchells also sold Llanarth Ethans Gina for 1900gns. This one is by Llanarth Centaurs Ethan and out of a home-bred cow and was knocked down to J R Pearce, Ashbourne, Derbyshire who also purchased the only bull in the sale, Sandwick Draughtsman, bred by A and C Ivinson, Penrith, Cumbria. By Podehole Atlas and out of Wharfedale Annabelle Tanzy, this two year old was secured for 1550gns.

Friday’s sale of beef breeding cattle at Carlisle saw an exceptional demand, with quality well sought after throughout the sale.

Heading the prices were the best of the heifers with calves at foot, with Mark Towers, Colt Park, selling Limousin heifers with calves at foot to a top of £3400, while others of the same breeding from the same home made £3000.

At £3100 was a British Blue cross heifers with calf at foot from Messrs Dickinson, High Knipe, while Mark Towers also sold a Blue heifer with calf at £3000.

Limousins were the pick of the in-calf heifers too, selling to a top of £2700 from J Hall, Lowfields, while in the cows with calves at foot the top call of £2250 came for a Limousin cow with calf from S Whiteford, St Johns Kirk. Another from the same home made £2120, while Mark Towers sold at £2080.

Best of the bulling heifers were British Blues from Messrs Muir, Middle Farm, at 1900, while Limousin heifers made up to £1850 for Messrs Pattinson, The Flatt. (Harrison and Hehterington).

As we’re nearing the end of trade for Limousin heifers in Roscrea, trade continues to be strong with the good quality lots fetching for between €3700 and €4600.

The Tynan family look like they’re having a good day with another going for €4000. Ardlea Girelle is a Tistou daughter out of Sibyll (a Gwenole daughter). This one caries a suckler beef value of €139, while just before her, Ardlea Girl, a Cesar daughter out of the Picador daughter Ardlea Caronwen has gone at €3700.

Back in normal running now and Des Joyce from Co Galway has sold Lisangeeragh Gina, a January 2011-born Ulm daughter out of the Sauvignon-sired Melwood Dolly, while Newtown Glamour, an Ampertaine Commander daughter has gone at €4000. This one is out of the ET bred Newtown Cacie who is a daugter of Cloughhead Lord out of Castleview Rub.

And closing the sale is a coulple of heifers who were not sold at the start of the sale with the best of these being a €4600 call for Noel Fennessy’s Wood Road Emma, an ET-bred daughter by Sympa out of the Festin daughter Ardnacrusha Violet.

Trade appears to be solid throughout in Roscrea for Limousin heifers with Drummin Flower Rose, a September 2010-born heifer from John Mcinerney, taking a call of €5500. This one is a Sympa daughter out of the Mas Do Clo daughter Driummin Dawn, an ET daughter of Drummin Peach and sells with a suckler beef value of €140.

Trading at the same money was Elite Farr, an ET-bred heifer from Edward Tynan. By Ampertaine commander, this November 2010-born heifer is out of the highly successful dam Ardlea Colite, a Vison daughter.

The pre-sale reserve female champion and April 2011-born Newtown Grace from Stanley Richardson has been knocked down at €5400. By Ampertaine Abracadabra, she is out of the Milbrook Tanko daughter Newtown Deobrah and also has a five star suckler beef figure, this time of 91.

The champion, Ardlea Girly a daughter of the ET-bred Elite Abel out of the French-bred Lino daughter Pepita went at €5000. She carries a five-star suckler beef value of 120.

And it seems heifers from the Tynan family are in good demand with Elite Fantago going for €4700. This one is a Tistou daughter out of the Ferry daughter Ardlea S227.

Just prior to these money makers, the April 2010-born Stragheglin Francis from Ciaran Bogue traded at €4900. This Ronick Hawk daughter is out of the Rocky-sired Rathnestin Donaa and Templequain Fifi, a September 2010-born heifer from Thomas O’Shea, exchanged hands at €4400. This one is a Milbrook Dartangan daughter out of the On-Dit sired Templequain Catherine.

John Greene from Co Donegal is currently leading Limousin female trade in Roscrea with a call of €6000 securing the March 2010-born Greenhill Fiona, an ET-bred daughter of Acajou out of the ET-bred Greenhill Ursula, a daughter of Meridien out of Nana. She sold with a five-star suckler beef value of €108 and having been served to Ampertaine Abracadabra.

From the same home and out of the same dam as the sale leader so far was the ET-bred Greenhill Favourite, this time by Sympa and carrying a SBV of €102. She has been offered having been served to Queenshead Altea. Just before that a few heifers (lot 3, 4 and 5) were unsold at €4200, €3300 and €3500, respectively.

Judging has now come to an end in Roscrea with Daniel Tynan, Co Laois, taking the overall championship. This one is the February 2011-born Ardlea Girly, a daughter of the ET-bred Elite Abel out of the French-bred Lino daughter Pepita. She carries a five-star suckler beef value of 120.

Standing reserve to her was the April 2011-born Newtown Grace from Co Leitrim-based Stanley Richardson. By Ampertaine Abracadabra, she is out of the Milbrook Tanko daughter Newtown Deobrah and also has a five star suckler beef figure, this time of 91.

Winning the fourth class of Limousin heifers ar Roscrea today was a Dan Tynan with Ardlea Girly, an Elite Abel daughter born in February 2011. She is out of 0189 Pepita, a Lino daughter. Second spot in this strong class went to Newtown Grace from Stanley Richardson. She is an April 2011-born Ampertaine Abracadabra daughter out of Newtown Deborah, a Milbrook Tanko daughter.

Third in this class was Lisangeeragh Ginger from Des Joyce and fourth was Newtown Glamour from Stanley Richardson.

The fifth class had just one entry with this being Gerrygullinane Ginger from Gerry Walsh. This June 2011-born heifer is by Procters Commander out of Links Lodge Sive, a Gamin daughter.

The first couple of classes have been judged in the pre-sale show at today’s Irish Limousin premier heifer sale at Roscrea with the red ticket in the first class going to John Greene’s March 2010-born Greenhill Fiona, an ET bred Acajou daughter out of Greenhill Ursula, a Meridien daughter.

Second in this class was Carrickmore Favbia, an August 2010-born Comeragh Canice daughter from John Connell. She’s out of Carrickmore Shania, a Bailea Navjoe daughter. This spot went to Drummin Flower Rose from John McInerney and fourth was Brookfield Faith from Alan Borton.

In the day’s second class the winner was Drummin Firefly, a Rocky daughter born in December 2010. Bred by John McInerney she is out of Drumming Annie, a Navarin daughter.

Then standing second was Elite Farr an ET bred Ampertaine Commander daughter from Edward Tynan. She is out of Ardlea Collite, a Vison daughter. In third spot was Elite Fantago from the same home and in third was Pwerful Frenchmaid from Bridie Lavelle, this one was bred by Philip Crowe.

In the day’s third class, which out spy tells is the strongest of the day so far, with plenty of quality on show and length and style in abundance, the winner was Des Joyce’s heifer Lisangeerah Gina, a January 2011-born Ulm daughter. She is out of Melwood Dolly, a Sauvignon daughter.

Second to her was Ardlea Girelle from Dan Tynan. This Tistou daughter is out of F039 Sibylle, a Gwenole daughter. Following on in third was Ardlea Girl from the same home and in fourth was Baltray Gemma from Patrick and Hild McDonnell.

Leading the way in this morning’s Highland judging at Chelford was the female champion, January 2011-born black heifer Jess Dubh 1st of West Edmondsley from the Baines family. She is by Domhmull of Sheardrum and is out of Malda Dubh 5th of Sands.

Taking the reserve overall and male championship honours under judge Stuart McKay, Stirling, was the February 2008-born senior red bull, Camdan 1st of Culfoich from Edward Halford. Bred by J and M McConachie and Son, this one is a son of Donnachadh Ruadh 1st of West Merkland and is out of Noreen of Culfoich and was a previous male champion at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The reserve female honours went to J2 Farming with the February 2009-born white female Fiona Geal 1st of Cim, a daughter of Lord Andershaw of old Greenlaw out of Fiona 4th of Cim.

Standing reserve in the males was Simon Haley’s February 2011-born red bull, Loachan Radir of Seam. By Aonghas of Dams, he is out of Lizzie 2nd of Knockendon.
