Taking the top price in yesterday’s Craven Dairy Auction, Skipton, was a fresh calved Holstein heifer from father and son team Raymond and Robert Johnson, Felliscliffe, Harrogate.

Heading the day’s prices was their third prize winner from the pre-sale show at £2200. She sold to John Howard, Carleton, giving 30 litres a day.

Second best price of the sale went to the day’s champion, again from the Johnson family. This one, sold for £2180 and was giving 28 litres a day on sale day. She was snapped up by John Whittaker, Laneshawbridge, Lancashire. Messrs Johnson sold two further entries at £1940.

Taking the red ticket in the fresh calved cows was Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk. She sold at £1880 to regular buyer Wick Williams,Nantwich, Cheshire.

Fresh calved heifers sold to average £1902, while fresh cows leveled at £1535.
