An entry of more than 250 head at the Spring Fever Sale at Sedgemoor yesterday traded to a top call of 2350gns for Andrew Fewing’s March calved heifer Keevil Plaid Melba 2 by Windy- Knoll Plaid. She sold to N F Clothier and Sons, Ston Easton.

Bristol vendors Ashlea Farm Services’ heifer Slymlakes Tennyson Sally sold for 2200gns. Other heifers over 2000gns came from regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler’s Bettiscombe herd and Ian Dimond’s Dorset herd.

Cows topped at 2020gns for A S Bennett and Sons Lilylane Wildman Pat 9 a second calver from seven generations of VG dams. Also at this price was a non-pedigree red and white second calver from A and P Bradford who are dispersing their dairy herd as they calve. David Norman’s third calver Ciderhouse Scrumptious Margot GP84 also sold for 2000gns.

Pedigree in-calf heifers from J and A Redman sold to 1700gns for Nuthatch Dragon Kirsten due in June to and Aberdeen-Angus. Commercial in-calf heifers due in May From Messrs F G Knapman and Co sold to 1480gns.

Served heifers from R J Court and Sons sold to 1320gns twice for a twin by Eastview Ernie from the Flower Family. Bulling heifers from Spicer Partners sold to 1080gns twice for daughters of Ridgefield Artist and Sicy Knowledge from the Carly Family. Their yearling heifer, Gomershay Shottle Minnie, sold for 1060gns.

The day included the dispersal of the milking portion of the Ebble Herd from B and K A Follett, Berwick St John, Shaftesbury. This straw yarded herd which calves through the year met a consistent trade and sold to 1950gns for a second calver Ebble Shottle Cherry out of a VG85 dam. The 22 calved heifers were a real feature of the sale and sold to 1950gns twice for Ebble Supreme Rhus by Noremead Supreme Red and Ebble Shottle Peach by Shottle out of an Ex91 dam.

Collective sale averages; eight pedigree cows £1825.69, 36 pedigree calved heifers £1841, two pedigree bulls £1438.50, 17 pedigree in-calf heifers £1505, four pedigree served heifers £1304, 21 pedigree bulling heifers £1270.50, seven pedigree yearling heifers  £987, 11 commercial yearling and younger heifers £517.
