Yesterday might have seen perfect weather for silage making, but demand was stil strong at Sedgemoor’s collective Jubilee dairy sale with regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler, Dorset, topping trade at 2150gns for Bettiscombe Tennyson Tilly 161st, a ‘Shottle granddaughter giving 32kg having calved in May. She sold to a Gloucestershire-based buyer. Also selling for 2000gns was Poynings L Baxter Adelaide who was consigned by Ashlea Farm Services, Bristol.
Cows topped 2100gns for first time consigners R and S A Manley for their organic second calver Primehill DI 2nd by Shottle. His consignment of 10 first – fifth lactation organic cows averaged £1834. This was followed at 2080gns by A R, S R and R D Smith’s 43kg second calver by Crichel Matchmaker who was part of their herd dispersal. Incalf heifers from the Smith’s sold to 1620gns for daughters of Chalclyffe Shrapnel due to calve to a Beef Shorthorn. This was matched by J and A Redman’s Nuthatch Dragon Ally 8th due in October to an Aberdeen-Angus. Two Jersey incalf heifers from R and J Mann sold to 1110gns for IJB Excitations Portia by Bridon Excitation.
Bulling heifers from B G and R M Coombes sold to 1140gns for Baxter daughters, while first time consigners Messrs Scolding travelled from Gloucestershire with their consignment of organic heifers born October 2010 which topped at 1020gns.
