Oxford Down breeders were out in force at Worcester on Saturday to witness a trade that saw the day’s overall champion lead the trade at 880gns. The sale topper was shearling ram Woodside Pringle from N Farmer which sold to E Duggleby, Driffield.

Leading the day’s ram lamb trade was a lamb from Roland Williams’ Greenland flock, Aberystwyth, with his pen leader making 330gns when joining James Hook’s Witney-based flock. A brace of other Greenlands tup lambs, including the day’s reserve overall champion sold at 300gns apiece to the same buyer.

In the select female offering it was once again the quality sheep which drew the bids, with James Hook recouping some of his outlay when selling the day’s female champion from his Barley Park flock at 330gns to Tudor Jones, Anglesey. Another from the same home, a half sister to the female champion also went to Mr Jones at 350gns.

The Richardson family’s Horsley flock led the ewe lambs when selling at 180gns to D Lindford, Buckingham.

Averages; five shearling ewes £253.05, six ewe lambs £158.37, four shearling rams £456.75, five ram lambs £273 (McCartneys).
