Tonight’s reduction sale of the Reid family’s Kelso and Meadowvale flocks of Texels has seen a highest call of 8500gns for a Kelso Pedro daughter (lot 61).

This one, from the Meadowvale offering is RMM1100434 and is out of Kelso dam by 110,000gns sire Newhill Major, with her granddam having been purchased for 17,000gns. She is believed to have sold to the Alford family, Devon, for their Foxhill flock.

And selling early in the evening at 4500gns was one from the Kelso flock, MBZ090253 (lot 15). This two lamb ewe is by Kelso Ozone and out of a Newhill Major daughter. The Reid family felt her to be the best Ozone daughter offered in the sale. Buying her was Charlie Boden for the Sportsmans Flock.

Then making 2000gns was a Mellor Vale Officer daughter from the Kelso flock, MBZ 1000070 (lot 26). This one is out of another Newhill Major daughter, with her grand dam being a £25,000 buy.

A 1700gns bid then secured the very next lot in the ring, one from the first pair of gimmers offered, MBZ1100022 (lot 27), an ET bred daughter of Kelso Prostar out of a dam by Cambwell Laird. She was taken by D McManaman, Co Mayo.

Trading for 1500gns was another of the Kelso gimmers, MBZ1100061 (lot 95), a Llangwm Rocky daughter out of a dam by McFly. She sold to E Hogg, Derryharney.

Taking a 1400gns bid was the third lot in the ring, a Glenside ewe born in 2005. This one, FPG05029, is a twin daughter of Castlecairn Keltic Star out of a dam by Glenside Forsyth and is dam of a 12,000gns sold to Trinidad Investments.

At 1200gns was another from the Meadowvale offering, RMM1100043 (lot 58). Sired by Llangwm Rocky she is out of a Kelso dam by Douganhill Mc Fly.

Three then sold at 1100gns, with the first at this money being a Kelso Prostar daughter (lot 24). This was MBZ 1000180 a 2010-born ET bred daughter out of a dam by Newhill Major.

Second to make this money was another of the gimmer pairings, this time a Kelso gimmer by Llangwm Rocky, MBZ1100107 (lot 30). She is out of a Douganhill Mc Fly daughter which is full sister Kelso Personality and Kelso Pot Luck.

And the third at this price was a Meadowvale gimmer by Kelso Rhinestone. This one, RMM1100357, is out of a McFly dam.

Just 40gns shy of that at 1060gns was another of the older ewes, this time a 2009-born Kelso ewe by McFly. This was MBZ09143 (lot 14) out of a dam by Major.

Aside from these highlights there were also plenty of sheep at more commercial prices with many selling at between 200gns and 400gns, allowing plenty the opportunity to buy in the Reids bloodlines at what would appear bargain prices.

Averages; 21 ewes £920.50, 65 gimmers £580.61 (United Auctions).
