Leading the sale of Hampshire Downs at Ballymena this week was a second prize ram lamb from John and Michelle McCauley’s Moneycarragh flock. This one is sired by Moneycarragh Pure Gold and is out of a Pode Hole ewe and was knocked down at 700gns to Kyle Brown, Dromore, for his recently established Listullyard flock.
Another ram from the same pen by Wattisfield What Not sold for 425gns to William Jeffers, Dungannon, for his commercial flock.
The McCauley’s also topped the female offering with their first prize ewe lamb by Wattisfield What Not selling for 480gns to Ciaran and Peter McAteer for their Aughnamoira Flock, Newry.
Lee York, Florencourt, collected the best pair of ewe lambs both of which were by Moneycarragh Darrens Gold and were sold to pre-sale judge Harry Middleditch for 350gns each.
Next best at 320gns was a ewe lamb brought out by Trevor Fegan, Loughbrickland., while Carnlough breeder Josephine Wray sold her second prize pair of ewe lambs from her Knockstracken flock for 310gns each.
Top price in the shearling ram entry came from Sean and Gillian Doyle’s Loughbrae flock, Katesbridge, which changed hands for 320gns.
The Shapwick Cup for Best Group of three ram lambs was won by John and Michelle McCauley which also received best pen average of 492gns for 3 lambs.
