A near 100% clearance rate and a top call of 980gns were the highlights of Saturday’s Zwartbles sale at Worcester, with the day’s male and reserve overall champion taking the lead call of the day.

This was Fosseway Trail-Blazer, a shearling tup from S J Inns. Sired by Holly Superman he is out of Wooton View and sold to Heather McCurdie, Rugby.

And trading at 650gns was the day’s first prize ram lamb, Berrington Wurlitzer from Heather Blease. This is a Berrington Torreador son and sold to W J Simmons and Son, Lydney.

Archie Smith-Maxwell then sold Beeston Waiter, a tup lamb by Beeston Tommy and out of a Melon ewe, at 640gns. He was knocked down to Alan Maiden, Droitwich.

Then came a 600gns bid for Hatches William from Messrs Holman and Mugridge, Exmoor. This is a son of a Wolfclyde tup and sold to M Forward, Exeter.

Females were led at 480gns was the day’s overall champion, a Berrington shearling ewe from Heather Blease. She sold to D Hutchinson, Oadby.

Mr Hutchinson also purchased the third prize shearling ewe also from Heather Blease at 380gns.  Fourth prize winner from Archie Smith-Maxwell sold at 340gns to S Cottle, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Meanwhile, ewe lambs traded to a 480gns top when R M Knowle sold one from their Gable West flock to A Selway, Strawbridge, Dorset.

Averages; 17 shearling ewes £247.68, 12 ewe lambs £227.50 three shearling rams £483, 14 ram lambs £406.50 (McCartneys).
