Beltex met a flying commercial trade selling to a top of 3000gns in Welshpool last week at the breed society’s annual show and sale. The day’s leader at 3000gns was the shearling ram, Glantre Ronaldo, full ET brother to Royce sold for 9000gns in Carlisle in August. Bred and exhibited by Michael Owens, Pontsian, Llandysul, he is by Airyolland Loyalty and out of a hombred dam. The buyer was Brian Hall, Ainstable, Carlisle.

Garry and Rhiannydd Williams,Gwynfe, Llangadog, enjoyed a highly successful day taking the day’s second highest call of 2600gns made by Paul Tippetts, Shifnall, for Cennen Rhianna, a Cennen Nice Try daughter who earlier in the day had secured the female and overall supreme championship.

Standing below her in overall reserve place was the male champion and twin to Rhianna, Cennen Raymond making 2000gns to C Jones, LlanbadarnFynydd, Powys.

Next at 1750gns was Lyonpark Ram, a shearling ram bred by Jim Kennedy and offered by Messrs Jones and Roberts Llangynin, St Clears.Sired by Kingledores Nelson he sold to S Gibbons, Tregoyd,Brecon.Messrs Jones and Roberts also commanded 1,150gns for Cynin Rebel, a Glantre Mickey sired shearling ram from BJ Rodenhurst, Farlow, Kidderminister.

A Davies, Berriew, Welshpool, then paid 2150gns for Glantre Robyn by Clary Notorious and 1600gns for Glantre Rowan, another Airyolland Loyalty son.  Mr Owens sold a total of 20 shearling ram entries to average £1066.

Two lots were bid to 1500gns a piece, with the first being the day’s reserve male champion, a Clary Notorious son to L Edwards, Llandefalle, Brecon, while Glantre Reece, an Aviemore Nadal son went home at the same money with MT and ER Davies and Sons, Llanelli.

Next up from Glantre were two lots by Loyalty sharing a 1000gns bid. Glantre Rooney was secured by H C Jewitt, Romaldkirk, Barnard Castle, while E H Pennie and Sons, Llandyssil, Montgomery paid 1000gns for Glantre Ripper.

L and S E Hewitt, Penyffordd, Chester, offered their shearling ram, Southern Acres Rio, a Bishops Nijinsky son for 1220gns to G E Davies, Sarn Newtown. Two more lots were bid to 1000gns, first of which was the reserve female champion, Wern Rosette, a shearling ewe by Headlind Dynamic and out of a Southholm dam from Gwion Morgan, Wern, to Messrs Jonesand Roberts, Llangynin, St Clears. The final 1000gns call was for Rattray’s Rockhard, a shearling ram by the homebred Rattray’s Mr Urdd from R and S Rattray, New Cross, Aberystwyth, to Bowen andBowen, Brooks, Welshpool.

Averages: 87 shearling rams £712.55; five ram lambs £392.70; 41 shearling ewes £422.18; eight ewe lambs £219.19 (Welshpool Livestock Sales).
