The Easycare Sheep Society’s Annual sale at Worcester enjoyed a solid day’s trade  with the rams on offer making a complete clearance and selling to a top of 1600gns for a shearling carrying the Myomax gene from H V and M W Thomas’ Pentre flock taken by G H Roper, Tenbury Wells, Worcester.

A particularly strong run of rams from Richard Owen, Anglesey topped at 1280gns to A Rees-Parry, Chepstow, Gwent.  Next highest call was 1100gns which secured a shearling from R G Elliott and Son, Kislingbury flock from Northampton secured by local breeder T W Steele, Pershore, Worcs. Roger Elliott enjoyed a sound following for the remainder of his shearling rams, reaching 920gns to H Davies, Llanwrst, Conwy, N. Wales.

Ewes enjoyed the same spirited demand with shearlings topping at £171 for two pens from the Cedarsley flock of David and Jill Prosser to G Hardman, Redmarley, Gloucester and the same vendor having other shearlings at £170 and £168 purchased by I N Jones, Chipping Campden, Gloucester.

Two year old ewes found a strong and keen following with T W Steele’s annual consignment very much in demand and peaking at £139 to T Davies, Trevethin, Pontypool, Gewnt.

Ewe lambs also held their own and shape and strength held bidders attention selling to £129 for a smart pen from Jo Hewitt, Kent to J C Jeffrey, Shaftesbury, Dorset.

Averages: 431 ewes £127.50; 430 shearling ewes £148.40; 272 ewe lambs £97.50; 62 rams £540.48 (McCartneys).
