Blackface gimmers led the trade at yesterday’s sale of draft Blackface ewes, gimmers and Cheviot gimmers at United Auctions’ Stirling Mart yesterday when Messrs Wood and Hunter, Dachirla, sold a pen of 10 at £420 to Mr Bone, Glenkiln, Isle of Arran.

Another pen from the same home sold at £300, with others from Dachirla at £220/head and £200/head.

Second best call in the gimmer was a pen from Ewan McMilland, Lurg, at £260/head, with another pen from the same vendor at £240/head and a pen from Auchloy at £230/head.

Ewan McMillan was also on form in the draft ewes, with his pen taking the day’s best price of £300/head when selling to Messrs Brannigan, Northern Ireland. Second best was a pen from Outerwards at £130/head.

Heading the prices in the Cheviot gimmers was a pen from Gladhouse Cottage at £185, with others from Westhall at £125. Cheviot draft ewes were topped at £108 by Auchentibber, with the same flock topping the Cheviot ewe lambs at £80/head.

Trade throughout the day was though significantly back on last year, with averages on the whole slipping by about £15/head across all sections apart from the non-accredited Blackface gimmers which rose by £14.94 on last year’s sale.
