With increased levels of technology and information there are many tools such as BCMS records, performance data and registration information that can aid in the identification of herds that have cattle that show unusual growth trends and gestation periods.

The Limousin society should establish a task force to investigate herds showing suspicious activity. herds should be visited for a full herd audit, using up to date BCMS records and current registration data from the society, to show all of the cows present in the herd and their current calving status e.g. In calf, recently calved, long time calved. The procedure would be repeated eight months later. If a herd is falsifying the age of calves, anomalies will show up at the second inspection, as some cows will have calved before they could physically do so if the data on the animal was correct.

I also believe that bulls should not have performance data printed in the catalogue unless the bull has been at least weighed once and scanned by a signet (Lim society) technician.

I cannot think of a better use of society funds than to level the playing field for all breeders and maintain the integrity of a breed that stands to be undermined by the actions of an unscrupulous few.

There is nothing wrong with buying good quality irish bred stock, in fact they have many strenghts and I would have no problem in buying them. But I am sure the Irish Society would not want their best stock heading to premier sales in UK, they get many customers travelling across from the UK. But the fact remains these animals are not bred nor born in UK - its a case of geography - and this is a british limousin society sale. I don't know what stance the Irish Limousin Society holds on their sales but I do know that they have show classes restricted to Irish bred animals only purely that it promotes their own breeding in their area. The British Simmental society has rules in place that any animal sold at their sales has to be born in UK. Obviously you think I am talking out of turn but I feell I am not. I have a genuine concern that it doesn't promote breeding in UK. Maybe I am the only one thats brave enough to say it.

Just promotes that they have realy good stock and that we should look at ther breeding to improve ours? Isnt that what everyone is trying to do, to keep getting better stock? It can only help if they bring ther top stock so more people can view and get a stronger price. If things wher the other way around and ireland was the place to take bulls would you be saying this?

To just clarify my concerns.. Isn't BLCS premier sales the place to promote British limousin breeding, ie Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland breeders to promote their own successes in breeding. If the case that animals bred in Ireland start to come across and are really successful and start a trend what message does that promote? I have no problems with breeders going to Ireland/France to purchase but really think it needs look at.
