Yesterday saw the third Mule ewe lamb sale of the season at Lazonby, with a strong sale throughout recording an average of £97.73, some £7 up on last year’s corresponding sale.

Top call at £162/head was for the champion pen from P M Smith, Parsons Shield, with these selling to Darley Stud, Newmarket.

Second best at £150 was a pen from The Bog Farm, with a pen from T Bowman, Brampton Fell at £140, having stood fourth. At £136 was the third prize pen from Kilnstown Farms, which were bought by B Goldstraw.

Much like earlier sales it would seem that the poorer prime sheep returns being seen at the moment aren’t denting the confidence of ewe lamb buyers, who clearly see a profit to be had at these prices. We can only hope their confidence is rewarded next year.

Average 9074 mule ewe lambs £97.73 (Harrison and Hetherington).
