Despite a packed ringside trade so far at the Limousin sale at Roscrea has been slow, with the best call so far being a €6200 bid for first prize winner Millburn Gringo (lot 19), a Sympa son. This one is out of Millburn Dusky, a Nenuphar daughter and carries five star ratings for maternal and terminal sire traits.

Second best so far is a bid of€4700 for Carrickrouge Gismo (lot 23), an Ulime Ri son out of Tullynavin Dena, a Milbrook Tanko daughter from Daryl Allison.

Then making €4000 was Roundhill Genomic (lot 25), a son of Acajou from Timothy Corridan. He is out of Roundhill Vache, a Lino daughter and has a four star terminal sire ranking.

A bid of €3500 then came for another of the red ticket winners, Keltic Grandslam from Teleri Thomas (lot 7). This Neuf son is out of Cwmpedran Telyn, a Cloughhead Lord daughter.

Following along a few lots later at €6600 was Galbally Geoff (lot 31) from Trevor Masterton. This Ulys son was unplaced in the judging this morning and is out of Galbally Dior 1, a Cloughhead Lord daughter. He sold with a five star maternal rating and a three terminal rank.

And at €4200 was the previous lot and first prize winner Elite Gigi (lot 30) from Edward Tynan. He’s by Attirant and out of Bremore Amira, a Nimbus-Mn daughter. Selling at €3600 was Ballyhugh Gavin (lot 29) from David Abbott. This one is by Panda and out of Ballyhugh Daphne, a Neuf daughter, while just €100 below that was Melwood Gasper (lot 27).

Gasper is by Ampertaine Commander and out of Anfield Coleen, a Milbrook Tanko daughter. He sold with with a five star maternal ranking and a four star terminal index.

It won’t be a shock for anyone that’s read the catalogue to learn that the Richardson family, Ghyll House, have won the championship and reserve in the show potential calves at Penrith this morning, with 22 of the 28 catalogued entries coming from them

Taking the championship was their Limousin cross heifer Watabootie a June-born entry. Reserve champion was the Richardsons’ August-born Blue cross heifer Cover Girl.

In the Limousin bullocks the Richardsons won with Cunning Stunt, were second with Black Tie Affair and stood third with Remote Control. Then in the Limousin cross heifers they picked up the red ticket with Watabootie, were second with Makowish and third with Candy Coated.

Taking top spot in the Blue cross steers was Crack a Tinny from the Richardsons, with Mr McCooley from them in second and Giorgio from Messrs Wills in third. In the Blue cross heifers the winner was Cover Girl from Messrs Richardson, with their Win Dot Com in second and Messrs Thompson third with their heifer.

The winner of the penultimate junior class, Ardglasson Highlander from Fiona Gilsenan, has taken the junior championship in the Limousins at Roscrea today.

This Fieldson Alfy son is out of Ardglasson Daisy, a Pelletstown Newman daughter and carries five star ratings for both maternal and terminal traits. He was a first prize winner at last year’s national show and reserve champion at Trim and is described by our spy as a sweet, catchy looking bull.

Following him in reserve junior spot was the winner of the day’s final class Meelickaduff Hurricane (lot 155) from Michael Hester. Sired by Nenuphar he has a four star terminal rating and is out of Kilartan Unity, a Ferry daughter.

Dougie MacBeath is in to the junior classes now at Roscrea and in the first class the winner was Newtown Gman (lot 83) from Stanley Richardson. This Ampertaine Commander son is out of Newtown Abby, a Ferry daughter. Second in this class was Shannon Goldie (lot 89), a Cerberus son from Sarah Mcelligot which is out of Shannon Verona, a Nimbus-Mn daughter. Taking third place was Kilacra Geni (lot 81) from the O’Beirns, with this being a Castleview Virulent son.

A Procters Cavalier son took top spot in the next class, with this being Crillane Gilder (lot 104) from Patrick Kenny. He’s out of Clooney Quinn Arlene, a Grahams Samson daughter. Following along in second place was Galbolie Gary (lot 96) from Thomas Obrien. This one is by Siam and out of Galbolie Betty, a Scorboro Regius daughter, with third spot filled by Greenhill Gonzales (lot 99) an ET bred Ampertaine Commander son.

A growing crowd at Roscrea have seen a Wilodge Tonka stand first in the ninth class of bulls this morning, with this being  Maythorn Governer (lot 116) from Martin McConnon. He’s out of Maythorn Amanda, an Interim daughter. Taking second was Milan Geiger from Donal McKeon, a Casimir son (lot 110), out of Milan Demi, an Imperial daughter. Then in third was Baileys Gucci (lot 118) from Tom Bailey and sired by Queenshead Altea, he’s out of Woodhouse Abbie, a Sympa daughter.

Class 10 was then won by Killcastle Golden Boy (lot 128) from Alan Kelly, a Tonka son out of Pelletstown Nickelle, a Genereux daughter. Another by Tonka, Carrowreagh Galeno then took second place (lot 122), with this one being out of Millbrook Sheila, an Ideal 23 daughter. Third place went to Shanrock Gerry, an ET bred F6 Neron son.

The following class was won by Ardglasson Highlander (lot 144) by Fieldson Alfy and out of Ardglasson Daisy, a Pelletstown Newman daughter. Taking second was Maythorn Hawk (lot 139), an Ardlea Dan son out of Aythorn Ursula, a Genial daughter and in third was Melwood Hank (lot 147) from Michael Hickey. He’s by Ampertaine Commander.

And in the last class of the day the red ticket went to Nenuphar son Meelickaduff Hurricane (lot 155) from Michael Hester. He’s out of Kiltartan Unity, a Ferry daughter. Standing second was yet another Ampertaine Commander son, Elite Happy from Edward Tynan (lot 157). He’s out of Vorace, a Renard daughter and stood above third placed bull Ardlea Hector (lot 154) from Dan Tynan. This one is by Casmir.

Teleri Thomas has taken the senior championship in the Limousins at Roscrea this morning with her October 2011-born bull Keltic Gobetween. This son of Netherhall Epic is out of Cwmpedran Cassandra, a Homebyres visitor daughter and carries a five star maternal index and is a maternal brother of €8000 Keltic Fivestar.

Standing reserve senior champion was Killmactransa Gordon (lot 44) from Jimmy McHugh. This one is also an October 2011-born entry and is by Nenuphar and out of Kilmactransa Tara, a Haltcliffe Hercules daughter. He sells later with a four star terminal index.

Judging has begun in the senior classes at today’s Limousin sale at Roscrea, with Dougie MacBeath awarding the red ticket in the first class of the day to Teleri Thomas’ Keltic Grandslam (lot 7), a Neuf son out of Cwmpedran Telyn, a Cloughhead Lord daughter, second place in this class went to Michael Hickey’s Melwood Graham (lot 12), a son of Ferry out of Melwood Violet, a Grahams Samson daughter and third was Martin Costigan with Toher Gent (lot 8), a Newtown Bunty son.

In the day’s second class the winner was Millburn Gringo (lot 19) from the O’Beirns. This son of Sympa is out of Millburn Dusky, a Nenuphar daughter. Standing second in this strong class was Shiloh Golden Boy from Hugh Murray (lot 15). He is by Ardglasson Eric and out of Ardglasson Sylvia, a Dauphin daughter. Then in third place was Carrickrouge Gismo (lot 23), a son of Ultime.

The third class was won by what our spy tells me is a powerful Attirant son, Elite Gig from Edward Tynan (lot 30). His is out of Bremore Amira, a Nimbus-Mn daughter. Taking second spot was Galbally Ger (lot 34) from Trevor Masterton, a son of Galbally Danastic out of Galbally A338, a Rubis daughter, with Ballyquirke George (lot 33) from Oliver Byrne in third place.

In the fourth of the day’s senior classes the winner was Kilmactransa Gordon (lot 44), a son of Nenuphar from Jimmy McHugh. He’s out of Kilactansa Tara, a Haltcliffe Hercules daughter. Sarah Mcelligot then stood second with Shannon Guiness (lot 49) an Ampertaine Commander son out of Shannon Duchess, a Vantastic daughter and third spot went to Greenhill Gold (lot 43) from John Greene. He’s by Cerberus.

The penultimate senior class was won by another from Teleri Thomas, Keltic Gobetween (lot 63), a son of Netherhall Epic out of Cwmpedran Cassandra, a Homebyres Visitor daughter. Taking second place in this class was Garrett and Lyndsey Behan with Clonagh Goliath (lot 56), a Wilodge Vantastic son out of  Ballymartle Sandy, a Heros daughter, with third place taken by Castleview Galileo (lot 66), another by Ampertaine Commander.

Then in the last of the morning’s senior classes the winner was Newtown Gresham from Stanley Richardson (lot 74). This Cerberus son is out of Newtown Trixie, a Dauphin daughter. He beat Michael Hickey’s Melwood Garfield in to second (lot 72), with Garfield being by Bolide out of Anfield Britney, a Lino daughter. Third here was another from the Newtown entry, Newtown Godfather (lot 70), an ET brother to the first prize winner.

The champion from the Young Farmers calf rally has led the trade at the Caledonian Marts sale of show potential calves today when selling at £3000.

This one, the winner of the first of the heifer classes, was bred by the Robertson family, Newton of Logierait and was bought in September at Caledonian Marts for £1150. Named Gangnam Style, she is by Craigatoke Butch and sold to John Taylor, Orkney.

Following that at £2400 was a Limousin cross heifer from the open classes from Archie MacGregor, Allanfauld. This one is a May-born heifer is by Haltcliffe Underwriter out of a limousin cross cow, she sold to John Lumgair, Gask, Forfar.

Craig Malone then sold his Limousin cross heifer for £2000 to Stewart Bett, on behalf of Balfour Baillie, Orkney.  This second prize calf from the YF section was purchased at Stirling in October for £900 from McGregor, Saddlebank, Perth

The winner of the first open class of the day was tapped out as the overall champion, with this being a British Blue cross from the Robertson family, Newton of Logerait. This one is by a Ridgedean bull and out of a Limousin cow by Attila and was bought as a calf at foot along with its dam for £1650 in May last year.

Reserve overall was the second prize bullock from the same class from Monzie Farms. He’s homebred and by Windsole Chancer and out of a Limousin x Blue cow.

Taking the top place in the first class of open calves at Caledonian Marts was the Robertson family, Newton of Logerait with a British Blue cross steer born in April last year. Second place in this class went to Monzie Farms with a Limousin cross and third was Messrs Bothwell and Allan with a Charolais cross.

The second steer class was won by Monzie Farms with a Limousin cross, while in second place was H Erskine with another Lim cross bullock and in third was the Robertsons again with a Limousin cross.

The first open heifer class was won by Monzie Farms again, this time with a March-born Limousin cross heifer. Second place went to Archie MacGregor with a Britis Blue cross and third went to another from the same home, this time a Charolais cross.

The next heifer class was won by Archie MacGregor with a Blue cross born in June, with the Robertsons second with another Blue cross heifer and third place going to C McKenchnie with a July-born Lim cross.

A Limousin sired heifer from Suzie Dunn has taken the overall championship in the YFC section of today’s show and sale of show potential calves at Caledonian Marts. This one, the winner of the first of the heifer classes, was bred by the Robertson family, Newton of Logierait. She was bought in September at Caledonian Marts for £1150 and is named Gangnam Style and is by Craigatoke Butch.

Taking the reserve championship were John and James Graham, Burnbank, with their British Blue cross calf which was bred by Fred Murray, Wrangham. This one cost £1050 at the Royal Highland Winter Fair and is out of Limousin cross cow.
