Leading the way at today’s sale of show calves in Carlisle at £3900 was a May-born Limousin heifer consigned by Messrs J Lee and Son, Agars Hill Farm.

Then selling for £3800 was the second prize British Blue heifer from Andrew Harrison, which sold to Messrs Preece. Meanwhile, yesterday evening’s pre-sale show champion, a Limousin cross steer from John Smith-Jackson went for £3600.

Also selling for that price was Neil Marston’s first prize heifer, a Bluegrass Cyclone, for £3600. Then the reserve champion heifer, a Limousin cross from Messrs Harrison, Grange Hall, sold for £3000. Meanwhile the heifer champion and reserve overall from the Marston family again sold for £2700. This one is again by the British Blue Bluegrass Cyclone.

The Powley family, Green Marsh, then sold their reserve steer champion, a Limousin cross,  for £1700.

Trade in the intermediate classes is still somewhat patchy, but the good bulls are getting away even if there aren’t too many sparkling prices.

Taking a 4400gns bid was Anside Gladiator, a Frewstown Breakdance son out of Anside Shannon, a Bewick Orbit daughter. He sold with a beef value of +38, he went to R Tempelton & Co, Carslae, Wigtown

Immediately after that at 4600gns was Allanfauld Gandolf (lot 539), a son of Cappaduff Aaron and out of Allanfauld Velox, he sold with an impressive beef value of +39. This went to Andrew Kay, Gass, Straiton, Ayrshire

Dyke Gomez (lot 546) then sold at 6000gns, this one is by Drumduff Champ and out of Dyke Samba, a Haltcliffe President daughter. He sold to S.A.C, Edinburgh.

Heading to a new home at 6000gns was Maraiscote Gunner (lot 547), a son of Goldies Comet out of Maraiscote Debbie, a Virginia Andy daughter. He carries a beef value of +46.

Andrew Burnett then sold Spittalton Glenample at 6500gns, this is a son of Spittalton Denzil out of Spittalton Tansy, an Odeon daughter and has a beef value of +32.  He sold to Dougie Ross, Balafark, Fintry, Stirlingshire.

Having been previously placed junior champion, William McLaren has just tapped out Newhouse Black Gladstone to take this morning’s overall Limousin championship here in Stirling.

By Hudscales Bigboy, this red coated bull with black genetics is out of the Kype Vandamme daughter Newhouse Divine and has a beef value of +45.

Reserve overall champion was the intermediate champion Ronick Golfer. Sired by Sarkley Cromwell, he is out of Ronick Ufonde, a Bailea Olympia daughter and has a beef  value of +28.

Standing reserve junior champion was Redpaths General (lot 568), a Lennon Breezer son out of Grahams Charity, a Utah daughter and has a beef value of +23. And taking the reserve intermediate title was Joan Gilliland’s Ballyrobin Glenfiddich, a son of 22,000gns Procters Commander out of Ballyrobin Ventara, a Ronick Okelahoma daughter.

Taking the senior title was Spittalton Gavin from Andrew Burnett (lot 461). This son of homebred sire Spittalton Denzil is out of Spittalton Ursula, a Middledale Shergar daughter.

The Campbell family, Thrunton, have sold Thrunton Rocket, a Peter Pershore son at 7000gns, with this one being out of Lakewood Rhapsody, an Elgar of the Moss daughter. He sold with a TSI of +45 and an SRI of +64 to AI Services, Northern Ireland.

Martin McCornick then collected 7000gns for McCornick Evolution (lot 282),  a Netherton Mr American son out of Rawburn Evergrand, a Rawburn Transformer daughter. He sold to SAC, Bush Estate.

Neil Wattie has just sold Tonley Podolski (lot 291), a Blelack Prince Consort son out of Tonley Princess, a Mosston Muir Edgar daughter at 4800gns, with a TSI of +34 and an SRI of +40.

And then at 4000gns was Newcairnie Platoon (lot 297), a Blelack Evril son out of Newcairneie Parba, a Newcairnie Bruce daughter.

The Clark family then sold Duncanziemere Judge at 7000gns. Sired by Auldhouseburn Karlos he is out of Duncanziemere Jody, a Millbawn Ernie daughter and sold to Terry Coghill with a TSI of +37 and an SRI of +46.

James Sealy has joined Newark Livestock Market as a new and experienced auctioneer, valuer and chartered surveyor.

James, who joins Newark having gained experience in other midlands markets, will be assisting with all live and deadstock sales at Newark, with a particular focus on store and breeding cattle sales and increasing prime sheep numbers.

A graduate of Harper Adams and having qualified with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Association of Agricultural Valuers, James will also be conducting a range of agricultural professional work alongside his auctioneering role. These services will be offered under the Newark Livestock Market Agricultural Advisory Services banner.

Professional services offered will include environmental scheme applications, rent reviews and tenancy advice, single farm payment scheme applications, CAP reform advice, NVZ advice, compulsory purchase compensation claims and a full range of farming arrangements, including grazing licences and contract and share farming agreements.

Newark Livestock Market chairman Douglas Gascoine said he was delighted to welcome James Sealy to the team at Newark. “We’re very pleased to have someone of James’ experience and skill joining us and we look forward to him adding his range of professional skills to our existing portfolio of work which will undoubtedly help us serve our customers more fully.

Taking the red ticket in the first cattle class of the day at the Welsh Winter Fair was Roy Kinnish with his Blonde cross heifer Sue-Bo at 628kg, second was Andrew Bishop with a 624kg Blonde heifer J-Lo and third was D Thomas with a 512kg Blonde heifer Gwyneth.

The second class for Charolais heifers was on by the Jenkins Family with Charlie Girl at 540kg, with T and K Coney second with 582kg Chardonnay and John Owen third with Seren at 532kg.

In the first of the Blue cross heifer classes the winner was Elfed Williams with Blackberry at 598kg, second was the Jenkins Family with 568kg Miss Marble 2 and third was Hefin Parry with Adell weighing 538kg.

Then in the second Blue heifer class the winner was Aeron and Berwyn Hughes with Socs at 662kg, second in this class was Messrs Edwards with Adele at 612kg and third was Dylan and Yvonne Hughes with Flash Dance at 688kg.

Ann Lewis took top spot in the first of the Limousin classes, winning with Black Mist at 536kg, second was Messrs Donaldson and Hall with Misty at 548kg and third was Tecwyn Jones with Tequila at 500kg.

Some of you may have already seen the Facebook post we put up last night, but the Farming Eye team would like to share the fantastic news that we have broken the one million page views barrier in just 10 months.

Traffic growth has blown our expectations and it’s is all down to you guys, our audience.  It just goes to show this information is very much in demand and we’ll continue to bring you the latest news from the sale rings across the UK and Ireland as soon as we can.

With the primestock season in flow, we’ll also be bringing you the latest news as it happens from the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, Scottish Winter Fair and East of England Smithfield Festival, before ending with some exciting pedigree sales in December.

Next year will no doubt be an exciting one for Farming Eye as we continue to grow our traffic and look at spreading in to new areas of coverage, so watch this space.

Topping Monday evening’s sale of Suffolk females from the Northern Irish Branch at Ballymena was a ewe lamb from Mark Priestley at 3800gns.

This was KPC 12 011, a daughter of Limestone Total and is out of a dam by Kings Theatre and goes back to Crosemanor Jubilee King. She sold to Mary Julia Cornish, Devon.

Second best was a 2000gns bid for one from the Roinson family. this gimmer, 73A 11 034 is by Jubilee Jethro and out of a dam by Glenho Gurka. She sold in-lamb to Cairness Diamond Geezer. This one was knocked down to Messrs O’Dean.

Making 1600gns was a gimmer from Alistair Gault, AOR 11 009. Sired by Glenisla Sydney, she is out of a dam by Cairness Scholes and sold in-lamb to Broomknowes Touch Of Class. Taking her home was P Grant.

And then at 1300gns was an in-lamb gimmer from the Taylor family. Sired by Cairness Kinane, this one, KKW 11 051, is out of a dam by Muiresk the Menace and sold carrying twins to Birness Bacardi. She sold to Michael Smyth.

Taking the overall honours in the pig rings here at the English winter Fair were Alan and Jackie Bretherton with their pair of 91kg pure Pietrain pigs. This homebred pair are the first pigs the couple have shown and are from the three sow herd run alongside 150 ewes, 400 Christmas turkeys and a small suckler herd.

Reserve here were Messrs Fieldhouse, with a pair of Landrace crosses.

The first of two heifers to go at 3500gns so far this afternoon, the first of which was John and Teena gilmour’s female champion Belhaven Beauty (lot 123). This one is an ET-bred daughter of GH coverboy Eric and is out of the banner Primary daughter Southolm Beauty 33L.

The next at that money was Belhaven Elizabeth Elba (lot 124). Another ET-bred heifer, this March 2011-born daughter of Young Dale Touch Down 36M is out of Young Dale Elba 18L and is full sister to the All Ireland champion Fulham Elba D147.

The next best from the Gilmour team was Belhaven Perfection Polly. By Rawburn Rommel, she is out of the Muirhall Double Edition daughter Belhaven Perfect Polly and sold for 2500gns to Glenrinnes Farms.
