Winning class 18 of the junior bulls was Haltcliffe George (lot 205) from the Ridleys. This one is a Cloughhead Umpire son out of the Sympa daughter Haltcliffe Clover who is full sister to the 30,000gns Haltcliffe Banker. Standing second to him was Alistair and Gill Macnab with Alagils Gershwin (lot204), an ET-bred son of Millgate Ceasar out of the Scorboro Regius daughter Alagils Ainsi. Third place in this class was Messrs Jenkinson with Whinfell Park Galaxy (lot202), a Wilodge Cerberus daughter out of a Rafiot daughter, while fourth went to the Adam family with Newhouse Black Galaxy (lot 210), a Hudscales Bigboy son, while fifth went to the same home with Newhouse Black Gangster (lot 203), this time a Tamarvalley Boscastle son.

Standing top of the line in the next class was Dyfan and Carol James with Cowin goldfinger (lot 220), an Urville son out of a Rocky daughter Cowin Brenhines, amking him maternal brother to the 16,000gns cowin Doubleoseven. Second here was Ken Jones with Garnedd Golew (lot 211), a Bremore Djerk son out of the Garnedd Vance daughter Hafodlas Catrin. Third here went to Messrs Jenkinson with Whinfellpark Gambit (lot 214), a Wilodge Cerberus son, while the fourth place ticket went to the hunter family with Lowabbey Gladiator (lot 218), an Ampertaine Abracadbra son, while the fifth place rosette went to Thomas Adams with Fedneyhouse Granite (lot 222), an Ulm son.

And taking the lead in the last class of bulls today was Netherhall Goliath (lot 229) from David Kelly. This one is an Attirant son out of the Saiga daughter Cloughhead Ainsi. standing second to him was Messrs Ridley with Haltcliffe Gains (lot 230), a Haltcliffe Dynamo son out of the Nenuphar daughter Haltcliffe Ainsi. Meanwhile, the third place rosette went to the Macnab family with Alagils GT (lot 225), a Tehix son and fourth went to Netherhall Gaffer (lot 228), another Attirant son and fifth went to the Mas Du Clo son Cowin Garfield (lot 232).

Friday’s sale of beef breeding cattle at Carlisle saw trade once again off the clock, with a packed ringside of buyers competing for every beast forward resulting in what the auctioneers believe to be the dearest trade seen in the country.

Mark Towers, Colt Park, had a great trade for his run of cows and heifers with calves at foot, with these selling to an average of £3430 and topping at £4500 for a ¾ British Blue cross cow with a Limousin cross British Blue calf at foot.

Messrs Dickinson, High Knipe, also enjoyed a great trade, selling heifers with calves at foot to a top price of £3350 for a Limousin cross and £3250 for a British Blue cross heifer. This run of heifers and calves averaged £2845.

Meanwhile, Messrs Bell, Woodall, had a run of heifers with calves which averaged £2850 and topped at £3050 for a British Blue heifer with calf at foot.  And, Messrs Tipling, Sleights House Farm, sold Limousin cross heifers and calves at foot to average £2575 and top at £3000.

Sharplaws Farms’ run of nine Limousin heifers in calf to a Limousin bull averaged £2183. (Harrison and Hetherington).
