The first sale of pedigree Fleckvieh cattle held at Dungannon yesterday saw a top price…

The first sale of pedigree Fleckvieh cattle held at Dungannon yesterday saw a top price of 5600gns and a complete clearance for the 40 cattle forward. With the growing popularity of the Fleckvieh breed, organisers S Q Fleckvieh Genetics reported an average of £3560 for the 10 bulls forward and a packed ringside.

Sale leader was a September 2010-born bull whose dam reached 10,500 litres in her third lactation with 4.42% fat and 4.07% protein, making this bull a very sound purchase for Newtownwards-based Anthony Patton’s 250-cow Holstein herd.

Milking heifers average £2525 with two heifers making £2900 each, while the eight in-calf heifers averaged £2800 with a top of 3000gns. Crossbred maiden heifers peaked at £1000, while the five heifer calves forward sold to a top of £540.
