In the first of the senior cow classes here at AgriScot, the Jerseys, the winner was Hefin Wilson with Bluegrass Heritages Lovely Lady, a Bluegrass Heathers Heritage daughter. In second spot was the Hunter Family with their cow Clydevalley Julian Flora, a Valleystream Julian daughter. In third place in this class were Messrs Holiday with Whiteoaks Julian Nonnette 2.

Then in the Holstein class the winner was Riverdane, Holmland and Carldanton Holsteins with Lavenham Adeen, a Regancrest Elton Durham daughter. In second spot was Richard Bown with Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne, a Goldwyn daughter and in third place was Yvonne Bradbury with Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody.

Topping the line up in the Ayrshire senior cow class was Richard Bown with his cow Loukat Lucky, an Ardrossan Ev Kates Trident daughter. Second to her was George Templeton with Knowe Bertha, a Brieryside Pearly King daughter and third was Messrs Adamson with Swaites Nonny 5, a Rosehill Blackthorn daughter.

We’re now in to the cow classes here at Agriscot and in the Red and White cow class the winner was Dilandy Debonair Tabitha Red from Messrs Yates and Lawrie, a Scientific Debonair Red daughter. Second in this class was Bill Nadin with Sterndale Deuce Rose Red, a Scientific SS Deuce daughter and third was Bill again, this time with Sterndale Talent Jodie Red.

In the Jersey junior cows the winner was Bluegrass Charlies Happiest from Messrs Wilson. She’s by Bluegrass Lord Charles and then in second place was the Hunter Family with Clydevalley May Twinkle 2, a DJ May Djhb daughter, third in this class went to the Hunters again with Clydevalley Governor Flora.

Then in the Holstein junior cows Richard Bown took the red ticket with Richaven Goldwyn Irene, a Goldwyn daughter and second place went to Hefin Wilson with Willsbro Goldwyn Kitty 5, another by Goldwyn. Third place here went to Blyth Farms with Blythbridge Elegant Christabel.

The Ayrshire juniors were won by Messrs Lawrie with Brieryside Snowdrop 5, a Waxham Executive daughter and second went to Messrs Watson with Muir Melissa, a Tremlow Major Threat daughter. Third place in the class was taken by Messrs Stevenson with Stevenson’s Phoebe 9, a Stevenson’s West Side daughter.

The early judging classes are underway here at AgriScot, with the first class for red and white heifers won by J B L Young with West spittal Whim, a Mirston Main Chance daughter. Second to her was G Templeton with Knowe Beatrice, a Sterndale Rose Royce daughter and third was Messrs Lawrie with Brieryside Razzle Sea Baby, a Willsbro Red Razzle daughter.

In the second class for Jersey heifers the winner was Messrs Wilson with Bluegrass Excitations Prissy Polly, a Bridon Excitation daughter. In second place this time around was Bayview Action Spotty from Messrs Pye, she is by Forest Glen Avery Action. Then in third place was Emma Murray with Windyridge Guapo Twiglet, a Yellow Brior Heaths Guapo daughter.

The third class of the day, the Holstein heifer class has been split in two, with the first half being the junior section. This class was won by Wilfred Maddocks with Wyndford Knowledge Torch 55, a Sicy Knowledge daughter. Taking second spot here was Berryholme Baltimor Maud, a Regancrest Baltimor daughter from Messrs Wright. Third place in this class went to Messrs Holgate with Aliann Mx Elegance, a Mario Xacebo daughter.

Taking top place in the next class was Riverdane and Sterndale Holsteins with Riverdane Talented Ashlyn, a Ladino Park Talent daughter. The in second place was David Yates with Meiklefirth Plaid Lutske, a Windy-Knoll View Plaid daughter and in third spot was Richard Bown with Holmland Goldwyn Adeen, a Goldwyn daughter.

The final heifer class for Ayrshire heifers was won by Messrs Lawrie with Brieryside Prolifiz Cherry, a Brieryside High Profile daughter, with second taken by A and S Lawrie with Cuthill Towers Radar Ray, a Hunnington Mandella daughter. Following her in third place was Knowe Berta, a Richaven Provider daughter from G Templeton.

We’ve moved on to the junior cow classes here at NABS, with the Ayrshire class won by Hunnington Fragrance 55, a Castern Tornado daughter from Chris and Lisa Window.

Taking second here was Haresfoot Brazen Pamela and third was Douglas’s Colark from Maggie Howie.

The Jersey junior cow class was won by Glanmor Saber Phlox from Glanmor Jerseys, an O.F Montana Saber daughter. Second to her was Hiltonbury Ringmasters Lyric from Oliver Neagke and third was Hiltonbury Centurions Kerplunk, again from Oliver Neagle.

Taking the top place in the Brown Swiss junior cow class was Moonriver Etvei Jemmafrom Messrs Bruce and Darlington, this is an Etvei daughter. Second place here went to Kedar TD Reia from Messrs Lochhead and third was Farrick Prunki Emma.

In the British Friesians the winner was Lismulligan Priscilla 41, a Deangate Prince 2 daughter from Brian Lawson, with Lismulligan Eileen 24 in second and Oakalby Rebel Salvine 34 in third.

The second of the Ayrshire junior cow classes was won by Loukat Lucky from Richard Bown, with this being an Ardrossan EV Kate’s Trident daughter. Second was Halmyre Urr Jinks 427 from G R Thomas and third was Hunnington Fragrance 50 from Chris and Kisa Window.

The Dairy Shorthorn junior cow class was won by Churchroyd Bronte Wildeyes 31 a Stadel daughter from Messrs Collins. In second was Westonia Marie 6 from Messrs Morgan and Stockton and in third was Churchroyd Bronte Wildeyes 29 from the Collins family.

Junior cow winner in the Guernseys was Blacknor Cracker CK Eva, a Cracker Lucky King daughter from Ian and David Crouch. Second here was Rosewood Tradition Suz from Messrs Cox and third was Instead Mimosa 3 from Messrs Salisbury.

The first of the dairy interbreed championships have started this morning with judge Michael George awarding the females of the future pairs championships to the Jerseys ahead of the Holsteins. The winning pair consisted of Salfach Suspicious Miley from Salfach Jerseys and Erie Grand Prix Radiance from the Morgan family, while the reserve Holstein pair were made up of Erie Adventure Roxy-Red from Iwan Rhys Morgan and Tonian Totan Roxy Red from the Webber and Rickard partnership.

In the Fitzhugh dairy interbreed championship the tables were turned as the Holstein took centra stage over the Jersey. Championship honours went to the breed’s champion and reserve breed champions Castellhyfrid Spirite Rosina from Simon and Sian Davies with Wyndford Goldwyn Erle from Wilfred Maddocks.

The reserve pair of Jerseys consisted of the champion Bluegrass Charlies Happiest from Jimmy Wilson and family and the reserve Erie Comerica Candy from the Morgan family.

Dairy judging has also been completed here today and here’s a brief outline of the championship results (just waiting for the rain to pass and then I’ll set foot int he dairy sheds and find out a bit more for you). Taking the top honours in the Holstein classes under Mike Gould wasterfield family with the January 2006-born Ards Duplex O Ruth, a Mesland Duplex daughter. Standing reserve to her was Messrs Waring with Winton Spen Roxy, an August 2007-born Oseana Aspen daughter.

In the Dairy Shorthorns the Collins Family took the top tickets with the second calving Churchroyd Bronte Wildeyes 31, a VG87 Stadel daughter who gave 9365kg in her first lactation. Reserve here went to the same stable, this time with the fourth calver Churchroyd Heather 30, an EX93 female who gave 12,296 kg in her last lactation.

The Ayrshire championship went the way of the Baynes family with Ketby Me Milestone Red daughter, while the reserve ticket went to The Dowager Marchioness of Normanby with Bailiffscourt Hortense 267, a January 2006-born Horseclose Jubilee daughter.

Coldeaton Jerseys were standing at the top of the line earlier with Woodbine Comerica Sandpiper 2, a bridon Remake Comerica daughter, while the Saxby family came in at reserve with Saxown Connections Heidi 7, a homebred Giprat Belles connection daughter.

Dairy judging as almost finished today at the Highland and leading the first of the run of championships under judge Maggie Howie, Sevenoaks, was Arthur and Susan Lawrie’s Red and White champion, Cuthill Towers White Petal, an August 2009-born Poos Stadel Classic daughter who is currently giving 30 litres a day having calved in January and is projected to give 8000 litres in this lactation.

Standing reserve to her was the second calving Hilltower Talent Marcy Red from the same family. This one is a Ladino Park Talent daughter.

Maggie Howie was back in action judging the Ayrshire section where she placed Keith, Jane and Katie Davidson’s third calver Halmure Urr Floralin. Having calved in March and now giving 45kg a day, this one was reserve here last year and gave 8400kg in her last lactation.

Reserve in the Ayrhsires went to Arthur and Susan Lawrie’s September 2009-born Cuthill Towers Zola, a Des Prairies Potter daughter.

Judge and Jersey breeder Jenny Daw tapped out the overall Holstein champion to take the top spot earlier this morning. Hilltara Damion Maude 5 from Samuel McCormick is an October 2007-born daughter of Erbacres Damion out of the Ex94 Hilltara Storm Maude and is currently giving 50 litres as a second calver. This was her first outing and likely only outing this year, but she was honourable mention at last year’s winter fair and was reserve heifer champion here two years ago.

Standing reserve interbreed champion was the Ayrshire champion, the Ocotber 2005-born fourth calver Ravenhill Ethel 395, an Ex 92 Woodland View Pardner daughter from John Suffern. She is out of the Ex91 Ravenhill Ethel 290 and has currently given 10,500 litres in this lactation. This is Mr Suffern’s 60th year in Ayrshires and earlier this morning he celebrated his 30th Ayrshire Balmoral championship.

The first collective dairy sale of the year at Sedgemoor saw a record trade for a bumper entry, with the ringside packed with potential buyers.

Heading the day’s trade at 2500gns was J A W Bendall’s Pensdown Rose 71 and End-Road PVF Boliver daughter which sold for 2500gns to West Wales.  Messrs Bendall’s first ever calved consignment of six cows and heifers averaged £2298.

Meanwhile, the highest consignment average of the day was achieved by A G Lambert and Partners with their six freshly calved heifers averaging £2424 and selling to a top of 2400gns for the November Calved Saddlers Sparky 620, a Baxter daughter.  Regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler sold their 10 Bettiscombe heifers to 2250gns averaging £2294.

Leading the coloured entry was a consignment of Jerseys from S E Lane and Partners’ Hareplain herd, Kent, with a record price for a Jersey at Sedgemoor Auction Centre when their November calved heifer Hareplain Vertify Lucy sold for 2200gns.  Six calved cows and heifers averaged £1610.

Back in the black-and-whites M P P and E D Kane continued their herd dispersal with 20 freshly calved cows and heifers selling to 2100gns for a homebred Weeton Jackson-sired second calver.

In-calf heifers met a very strong demand selling to 1900gns for R Fricker’s Moet Brinstar Sirius daughter due in March to an Aberdeen-Angus.

Collective sale averages; four pedigree calved Holstein cows £2016, 37 pedigree calved Holstein heifers £2258, eight Jersey calved cows and heifers £1418, 20 commercial Holstein in-calf heifers £1657, 24 Montbeliarde in-calf heifers        £1431, 18 commercial Holstein served heifers £1151, seven commercial British Friesian served heifers £1029, one Holstein bull (14 mths old) £1313 (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).
