Saturday will see the Premier Show and Sale of Simmental cattle in Roscommon, Eire and…

Saturday will see the Premier Show and Sale of Simmental cattle in Roscommon, Eire and having a quick look through the catalogue there are one or two bulls standing out for sure. I’ll actually be over for the sale so it will be interesting to see what they look like in the flesh.

First up for me is Cruithill Brian (lot 6) from Raymond Bracken. By the ET-bred sire Curaheen Wakeman, he is out of the Hillcrest Jermome ET daughter Cruithill Value. He has a SBV of 138 and five stars throughout apart from daughter milk.

Next up is the first of what is likely to be a very strong string from Garrett Behan and one of his best for me is Clonagh Buckarooney Truely (lot 10). By the successful herd sire Banwy T-Rex, he is out of the Raceview King daughter Clonagh Truely Scumptious, an ET-bred daughter out of one of the herd’s strongest dam lines. He has good figures throughout and sports a SBV of 173.

The following lot is from the same home, but I believe Mrs Behan should be taking credit for this one as it carries her prefix, Jennalyn Billy Bobby (lot 11) is by T-Rex again and is out another King daughter, this time Jennalyn Vee Duffy, an ET-bred daughter of Milton Deena. Again this one carries a good set of figures including a five star index of 150 for SBV.

The Behan’s also have an interesting bull in the form of their ET-bred Clonagh Body Builder (lot 14). By Seabank Flint, a Gretna House Supersonic son, he is out of the Sacombe Wishful Thinking daughter Hillcrest Jacqueline ET, who is out of Camus Brandy. This has a pedigree some would go mad over and it’s that is intriguing me.

Next on my list is Bridgemount Bond from William and Marie O’Riordan. By Kilbride Farm Newry and out of the Ballyduff Jeweller daughter Bridgemount Shelia, he has a strong set of indexes throughout including five stars for SBV, weanling export and beef carcass.

Following on from him is the next lot in the ring, Cruithill Batchelor from Raymond Bracken. Again by Curaheen Wakeman, he is out of the Ballybane Lad daughter Ballybane Rachel and has a good set of figures.

And then it’s Fearna Commander (lot 22) who gets a mention. By Glebefarm Tyson, he is out of the King daughter Fearna Vienna, the National Show winner. Although not recorded the comments on the catalogue suggest he’ll be a fair size if he’s doing 2kg a day.

The next lot in the ring (lot 23) Auroch Cyclone, an ET-bred son of Milton Lord-Tiffany, from David Wall, is next to catch my eye. Out of the King daughter Raceview Misty-Jade, he has a good set of figures and a five star SBV of 158 and was National Show bull cafl champion at Strokestown last year.

David Caffrey’s T-Rex son Addinstown Caesar (lot 38) might then be worth. He’s out of the King daughter Addinstown Tiffany and has a good set of figures culminating with a SBV of 170. He stood second in the National Show bull calf championship and was a class winner at Virginia.

My penultimate pick is Towerhill Call Me Murphy from Seamus Aherne. He is one of the first to be offered by the hgih SBV bull ET-bred Curaheen Vio and is out of the Rosten Barney daughter Towerhill Naomi.

And the last for me is Anatrim Coco from David Brickley. By the ET-bred Titan son Anatrim Viva, he is out of the Anatrim Jacob daughter Anatrim Tess. He has five star indexes for SBV, weanling export and beef carcass.

As ever these are just a few of my own picks….feel free to leave your thoughts below.
