This Saturday sees a wealth of pedigree sales taking place across the country with Herefords in action in Hereford and British Blondes going under the hammer at their Society sale in Worcester, but Farming Eye will be back in action in Newark this weekend covering the multi breed sale. Trade at the moment is strong across all beef breeds with good money being paid for commercial bulls and if the trade follows a similar pattern to that seen at Newark for the Limousin Day sale, we could be in for a good day.

The sale itself will feature a number of breeds with good entries forward from the Charolais, Simmental, Aberdeen-Angus, Beef Shorthorn, Blonde, British Blue, Hereford and Salers breeds as well as a number of strong commercial cattle entered.

Commercial trade at Newark at the moment continues at a pace with this week’s market selling 564 prime cattle with young bulls selling to a top of 229.5p/kg for a British Blonde from John Holmes with the top grossing bull being a Simmental from the Evans family which sold at £1680. Some 166 steers averaged 195.35p/kg and topped at 237.5p/kg for a Limousin cross from Messrs Mellor and Wilshaw with the top grossing steer coming from P and J Needham with another Limousin cross which sold at £1673.10.

Heifers were equally strong with 126 averaging 198.83p/kg and topping at 244.5p/kg (£1486.56) for a British Blue cross from Willie and Michael Seels. Meanwhile, store trade saw a top price of £1260 for Charolais cross steers from G and H Chester, while heifers from the same vendor sold to a top of £1200.
